AI Insights
Get an AI-written report on your order activity for any recent period: a headline summary, key metrics, alerts, and recommended actions you can act on. The same page is where you meet Compy, the AI assistant that sits on every admin screen.
Where to find it: Admin → AI Insights (/admin/ai-insights). The page is available to full Admin and Marketing accounts. Team members with the Shop Manager role do not see the AI Insights menu item.
Generate an insights report
On your first visit you see a "Ready to generate insights" empty state. Reports analyse your order patterns for the period you choose.
- Pick a period using the pill buttons: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days (selected by default), Last 30 Days, This Month or Last Month.
- Choose a Depth: Standard for a normal report, or Deep Analysis for a more thorough one that takes longer.
- Click Generate AI Insights.
A blue "Generating AI Insights..." banner appears with a spinner, and a notification confirms it has started. When the report is ready, an "AI insights ready!" notification appears and the report replaces the banner.
If a completed report is already on screen, a Generate New Report? confirmation appears first, warning that the new report will replace the current one. To keep the existing report, click Cancel and export it first.
If the Generate AI Insights button is greyed out, see Troubleshooting.
Leave the page while a report is running
You do not have to wait. The banner says so: "You can leave this page and come back later. We'll save your report."
- Navigate away and come back while it is still running, and the page picks it up automatically with a "Resuming insight generation..." notice.
- If the report finished while you were away, it is on screen as soon as you return.
- If it is taking a long time you may see "Report is taking longer than expected. Check back later." The report has not failed and is still being worked on. Leave the page, come back later, and it will resume or display automatically.
Work through a finished report
A finished report has up to five sections. Read them in order: the summary tells you whether to worry, the alerts and insights tell you what about, and the recommendations tell you what to do.
- Start with the Summary card at the top. It gives the headline finding, the period it covers, and an overall outlook: Positive (green, tick), Negative (red, cross), Mixed (yellow, warning) or Neutral (grey, info). Check the period named here matches the period you meant to look at.
- Scan Key Metrics. Each card shows the metric, its value, and where there is a comparison a trend arrow with a percentage change: green arrow up, red arrow down, or a flat marker for no change. Some cards add a short context line explaining the figure.
- Deal with the Alerts. These are the things the report thinks need your attention, sorted most severe first: Critical (red), Warning (yellow), Info (blue). Each has a title, a description, and sometimes a small badge naming the metric it relates to. This section only appears when there are alerts.
- Open the Key Insights. They are sorted by priority, highest first, each with a HIGH, MEDIUM or LOW badge and a matching coloured left border (red, yellow, green), plus a category icon: revenue (green), engagement (purple), risk (red) or opportunity (orange). The first one opens expanded. Click any card to expand it and see the full description plus an Evidence list, the specific data points behind it. Click Expand All above the list to open every card at once, and Collapse All to close them.
- Prioritise the Recommended Actions. Each carries an Impact badge (how much difference it is likely to make) and an Effort badge (how much work it involves), plus a category: Retention, Growth, Risk Mitigation or Optimization. Where both badges are green you have a high-impact, low-effort quick win. Do those first.
The report is a suggestion based on your order data, not a decision. Check anything surprising against the Orders page before you act on it.
Save a report before it is replaced
Generating a new report for the same period replaces the one on screen, and there is no version history. Exporting is the only way to keep a copy.
- With a completed report on screen, click Export next to the Generate AI Insights button.
- Your browser downloads a plain text (
.txt) file named after the period and the date.
The file contains the whole report: the summary and outlook, key metrics with their changes, alerts, insights with their evidence, and recommendations with impact, effort and category. Export before regenerating anything you want to file or share with your team or your accountant.
Switch between reports for different periods
Your reports are saved, one current report per period.
- Click a different period pill. The page loads the most recent saved report for that period, so you can flick between, say, Last 7 Days and Last Month without regenerating.
- Check the Last generated line next to the Generate button. It shows how long ago the report on screen was created and how many seconds it took to produce.
If you have never generated a report for the period you clicked, the previous report stays on screen. Always check the period named under the headline in the Summary card before reading the numbers.
Ask Compy a question about your site
Compy is the floating assistant available on every admin page, not just this one.
- Click the round sparkles button in the bottom-right corner of any admin page. A pulsing green dot on the button means you have not had a conversation yet.
- On a fresh chat Compy greets you and offers up to three starter questions under Try asking:. Click one to send it straight away, or type your own in the Ask a question... box and press Enter (or click the send arrow).
- Read the answer in the chat. Ask follow-up questions in the same conversation and Compy keeps the context.
Ask in plain English, for example about your sales patterns or customer activity. If Compy cannot answer, a short error message appears above the input box and your question is removed from the conversation, so ask again or rephrase it.
Make the chat window bigger
Click the expand button in the chat header to cycle through three sizes. The tooltip always names the size you will get next:
- Expand window takes you from the default corner window to Large, a taller and wider window.
- Full screen takes you from Large to a window that fills the screen with an even margin on each side.
- Restore default size takes you back to the compact corner window.
Compy returns to the default size whenever you close and reopen it.
Clear a conversation
Once you have started chatting, a refresh icon appears in the chat header. Click it to clear the conversation and start fresh. There is no way to get a cleared conversation back, so copy anything you want to keep first.
Brand the chat avatar
Your own messages are shown with your site's favicon as the avatar, so the conversation matches your brand. If no favicon has been uploaded, a generic user icon is used instead. Upload one on the Settings page.
Troubleshooting
The Generate button is greyed out and there is an "AI service not configured" badge. The yellow badge in the top right means the AI service is not set up for your site, and reports cannot be generated until it is. This is not something you can fix from the admin area. Contact your platform support team to have it enabled.
My report shows a red "Generation Failed" banner. The banner includes the reason. Read it, then click Try Again to re-run the report with the same period and depth. If it keeps failing with the same message, contact your platform support team and quote the error shown.
I generated a report but cannot see it any more. Check the period pills first: the page shows the latest report for the selected period, so click back to the period you generated for. If you generated a new report for the same period, the old one has been replaced and only an exported copy survives.
The report says it is taking longer than expected. It has not failed, it is still processing in the background. Leave the page and come back a little later. The page resumes tracking it and shows the result when it is ready.
The report on screen covers the wrong period. If you click a period you have never generated a report for, the previous report stays on screen rather than clearing. The period the report actually covers is named under the headline in the Summary card. Generate a report for the period you want.
Compy shows an error instead of answering. Your question is removed from the conversation when this happens. Try asking again, or rephrase it. Persistent errors are worth reporting to your platform support team.
